Cat Deakins is a cinematographer and filmmaker currently based in New York City, where she was born and raised, and Los Angeles. She is known for her work in both narrative, documentary and experimental film & video, and has an MFA in Cinematography from UCLA and a BA in Sociology from Harvard.
Before becoming a DP, Cat worked as a freelance photographer for many clients including: Rolling Stone Magazine, Seventeen Magazine, and Nokia. She has been the recipient of notable awards for Best Cinematography including the UCLA Film Festival and the Freak Show Film Festival.
A short documentary she shot in Bolivia, El Alto: La Tierra en el Cielo (dir. Adriana Montenegro), aired on CNN en Español worldwide and was a finalist in the Concurso de Periodismo CNN 25 – Visión Latinoamericana, a competition for documentaries about the future of Latin America.
